How to Maintain Artificial Turf in Georgia: Simple Care Tips

Regular Rinsing

Rinsing your turf with a garden hose every few weeks removes dust, pollen, and surface debris that accumulates over time. In Georgia, spring pollen season makes this especially important. A simple rinse is all that is needed and it takes less than five minutes for most yards.

For pet areas, rinse more frequently, at least once per week, to flush liquid waste through the drainage system and keep the surface fresh.

Brushing the Blades

High traffic areas can cause the turf blades to flatten over time. Brushing the turf with a stiff bristle broom in a direction against the blade lean restores the upright, natural appearance.

Most residential installations need brushing two to four times per year in heavy traffic zones. This is quick, easy, and makes a visible difference in how the turf looks. Every Prime Turf residential turf installation is completed with proper infill application that makes blade maintenance easier and less frequent.

Debris Removal

Leaves, pine needles, and other organic debris should be removed regularly, especially in fall. Leaving organic matter on the turf surface for extended periods can retain moisture and create conditions for mold or mildew growth underneath.

A leaf blower works well for this and is faster than raking. For smaller debris, a soft bristle broom is effective without risking any surface damage.

What to Avoid

A few things to keep in mind to protect your installation over time.

Avoid using metal rakes or tools with sharp edges on the turf surface as they can pull or damage the blades. Do not allow open flame near the turf. Avoid parking vehicles on turf areas as the weight and heat from exhaust can damage the product. Keep charcoal grills off the turf surface.

Annual Check

Once per year, do a quick walk around the perimeter and seam areas of your installation. Check that edges are secure and that no seams have shifted or lifted. Early detection of any edge or seam issues allows for a simple repair before a small issue becomes a larger one.
